I just came across this speech by the Republican Mayor of San Diego in support of same-sex marriage. Take a moment and read the whole thing.
THIS is how we create the conditions necessary for change in this country– by being open, sharing our stories, and sharing our life experiences.

It always amazes me how some on the “Christian right” can villify the LGBT community, all in the name of their religion. I grew up in a small-town community Christian church, and although I would never consider that church to be liberal, I never once experienced the absolute viciousness some on the right save for our community. I was taught that God is love.
As efforts to pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) in Congress and the non-discrimination legislation here in Pennsylvania begin to ramp up, some on the right have already begun their rhetoric rampage, speaking of “gay and she-male activists” wanting to make “homosexuals and cross-dressers” a protected class.
Thankfully, people of faith from across Pennsylvania are standing with the LGBT community in support of the bill, and against discrimination. Over one-hundred faith leaders and organizations from every corner of the state helped to defeat the constitutional amendment against same-sex marriage last year, and this year this coalition is again speaking out.
To kick-off the new legislative session, the Faith Coalition for Pennsylvania Families is holding an event on Tuesday, September 25 at Christ Church Philadelphia. People of faith from across Eastern Pennsylvania will be on-hand to discuss the non-discrimination legislation and how other people of faith can make a difference in this struggle. The event is from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. If you’re interested in attending, just e-mail Jake.
